3b Vocabulary/common expressions

1) Nang < Manang ~ an address for an older woman

(shows respect/politeness)

2) Day < Inday ~ vocative for a younger woman/little girl

3) Unsa may ato ~ Can I help you?

4) dayon' ~ come in

5) palihug ~ please --palihug ko sa akong kape

~ give me my coffee, please.

6) moadto na (a)ko ~ i’m leaving now; goodbye

7) balikbalik ~ come again

 

 

 

8) Spanish cardinal numerals are adopted in Cebuano, especially in (a) telling time

[a la una, a las dos, a las tres y media; a las kwatro en punto; a las seis kinse, etc.]

(b) prices of goods [singko pesos, singkwenta pesos, un mil kwatro, etc], and in

c) expressing one's age [siete anyos; seisanta y dos, sitenta y singko, etc]

9) Cebuano numerals (1-10) ~ usa, duha, tulo, upat, lima, unom, pito, walo, siyam, napulo.

11-19 ~ napulog + basic num; 20 ~ kawhaan; 21-29 ~ kawhaag + basic num;

30-90 ~ katloan, kap-atan, kalim-an, kan-uman, kapitoan, kawalohan, kasiyaman;

hundreds ~ basic num + ka + gatus > usa ka gatus; thousands ~ basic num + ka + libo
